Stud Poker Rules in General

The big difference with the Texas Hold’em poker and others variants is that stud poker rules are not a community variant. This means that there are no joint open cards. This explanation mainly follows the rules of the general Poker Stud variant.

The Gameplay of Poker Stud

1. Ante

 All players at the table bet an ante amount. This is a fixed amount which varies per poker room. With this ante bet you buy the first cards, as it were.

3. Third Street

After the ante bet, each player is dealt two face down cards and one face up card. The one with the lowest hand is required to start placing either a bring-in bet or the full bet (the full maximum bet). The game goes clockwise.

3. Fourth Street

Everyone is dealt a new face-up card. The player with the highest open card is the first to act and has the option to check or bet. The betting options differ per Poker Stud variant. It is advisable to check this carefully in advance.

4. Fifth Street

The next face-up card is dealt to each player. Again, the person with the highest card may start. A total of up to four rounds of betting (4 bets) take place.

5. Sixth Street

 The fourth face-up card is dealt. During this round, the same rules apply as for Fourth and Fifth Street.

6. Seventh Street

During this round, the last card is dealt. In this case, each player is dealt a face down card and the one with the highest face up cards starts betting. Bets are made up to 4 times before reaching the Showdown round.

7. The Showdown

When more than one player is left, it’s time to show the cards and decide the winner. The last person to bet shows his or her cards first.
